Luis von Ahn

I know that this video is long, but it is fascinating and particularly relevant to this course. It's about using games to convince people to perform useful tasks. It's almost like a reverse of what we are doing. I tried to embed the video here in the blog, but I guess blogger doesn't like me and I don't want to fight with it.

What do y'all think?

It's fascinating. I ended up watching the whole thing. So many rote learning tasks could be made into simple games like these (maybe): times tables, word recognition, historical facts, etc.

I like the way the game is made social, interacting with others.

Man, there are some really smart people in the world!

Thanks, Micah.

What impresses me so much about this guy is not that he's smart (he is very much so) but the fact that, despite being obviously technically minded, he can speak very well!

Very interesting. I only viewed about half of the lecture (during my lunch break) before registering and trying my hand at The ESP game. Which I must say could get to be very distracting(from your other responsibilities) if you aren't careful(I limited myself to 3 rounds). I have to agree with Micah that he is very well spoken, but I was more impressed with the content of the presentation and the direction he took it, without making it boring, or dragging on.
