This is like the Matrix: people don't want or can't handle even a conflict-free virtual life.
Dan, this raises some questions I had about corporations using virtual worlds, avatars, etc. I've read about IBM'ers using SL, or something similar, and I wonder what would happen if a person, through an avatar, made a decision or statement that resulted in a disaster or failure - and the repercussions were significant - could you or would you be able to find blame with the person or the avatar they controlled?
